The word Dansko, genuinely, means Danish Shoe. The initial design was a completely unique Danish clog, which founders Peter Kjellerup and Many Cabot found in a tiny Danish shop in the late 1980′s. Being pro pony folk, they loved the shoes and thought they’d be perfect for wearing in the barns. They brought them home and tested them for several years, finding out they were durable, comfortable, and good-looking, too. After a bit, they were such followers they never wore any other kind of shoes- so they purchased sole rights to the products and formed Dansko, Inc. In 1991. Today, the word has spread around the country about the snug, great-looking shoes the company makes, and they are retailed in 3500 different locations.
